Trudy

We adopted Trudy in August 2013.  She was 3 years old and had been living with an elderly person who died.  She seemed traumatized, would not eat or go outside unless someone stood beside her.  She didn't know how to walk on a leash.  She was uncomfortable getting in or out of a car and would not go down our basement stiars.  We spend a lot of time there.  It took almost a month, but she finally came out of that shell and has grown into the dog we hoped she would be.  She is a lover and has become a lap dog.  She is very laid back and loves going on walks.  I recommend giving older dogs a chance!!

The Leahy Family

Sammy & Hank

Sammy is our wonderful foster fail that we adopted last year bc my husband just couldn't give him back. He is so fun and loving! Such amazing animals at Salina Animal Shelter!!

Hank was an itty bitty, 4 month old, extremely social, kitten who was at Petco for over a month. For some reason no one wanted this friendly ball of purrs...but I did! He has been with us for almost 2 years now and is still the best kitty ever!!!

Zeus

This is Zeus. We adopted him from Salina animal shelter in October 2014. I saw his sweet face online, showed my husband, and within an hour we were at the shelter playing with our new little buddy. We also took our other min pin to meet his new brother. They hit it off right away and we knew Zeus was a perfect fit for our family. Zeus is so kind and gentle. He's a good boy and loves to run. He enjoys being cuddled and playing with his human brother and doggy siblings. Thank you so much for giving us the chance to rescue sweet Zeus He made our doggy family complete!!!

Kima

We adopted Kima almost a year ago for my 16 year old daughter. At that point I never thought I'd be able to have a large dog again because I'd been mauled..she's now a daily reminder that most dogs have a kind soul. Thank you to the Salina animal shelter she has truly been a blessing to my daughter and to me..she healed a horrible trauma.

Sam

We got our dog Sam 5 years ago when he was an adorable puppy full of energy. Every time we would come visit him at the Salina Animal Shelter, he would jump around in his cage. Unfortunately we couldn’t take him home right away since he was found off the street. We had to wait 3 long days hoping that we could get him. We knew that there would be a lot of people wanting him on his adoption morning, so we parked in the first stall and stayed all night to claim him! We started waiting in the parking lot at 6 pm until the next morning when we got him. Sam is the sweetest dog ever! He is such a lap dog and loves sitting around with our family and chewing on his Fox.

The Robinsons

Willie

This is Willie. I adopted him from Salina Animal Shelter in January of 2014. He is a very happy healthy and LOVED little boy! His best friend is a 3 legged cat I adopted from a shelter in my local area in 2013. Willie was a shy and nervous boy when he came to live with me now he always in the center of everything! He ADORES my grandchildren and allows them to dress him up along with them and loves when they put him in the baby swing! He just loves it! He also loves EVERYONE so much that if you aren't paying attention to him he will stand on his hind legs and put his front paws together as though he is praying and turn in circles! We love him so much and cannot imagine our family without him! He is such a blessing to all!

Cass

We adopted Cass from this shelter in January of this year. I had seen her picture on this site a few times and thought about her, but also thought that we didn't need or particularly want another dog, our current dog (also adopted from the shelter many years ago ) is reaching his golden years an I wasn't sure about bringing a special need puppy into the mix. Then I met her, and she was just as goofy, crazy and wild as I expected! And she completely stole my heart! She's now 50lbs of goofiness and love, a couple months ago she had a horrible night where she started seizing almost every 2 hours, we now have her on medications and she's doing great! Someone asked me after I told her story if she was more than I bargained for or was more than trouble than we were ready to deal with, I emphatically replied no, she's like my baby and I made a commitment to her that I would care for and love and fight and protect her for as long as she is on this earth. I can't imagine our lives without her now! She is my snuggle-pup and I love her to pieces!

Tillie

Tillie is the black one in the front. I adopted her from you guys back in 2005 when she was only 2 & 1/2 years old. She's been my baby ever since and I'm so blessed to have her in my life. I love Tillie so much! She truly is my little girl.

Ginger

We adopted Ginger in 2010. My kids had been bugging me for a dog, and I saw her photo on the shelters website. The kids picked a bigger dog (of course), but I knew the minute I saw Ginger she was going to be my life long friend. Side note: I didn't realize until YEARS later that Ginger wasn't her name, just a name they gave her because she came in with no tags (ha!). We brought her home, and she was terrified... of everything. You couldn't pet her without her tinkling. She was intensely fearful of men, cowering and whimpering. Today, she is fiercely protective of my kids & I, and has even learned to love my significant other, who teaches her tricks. She LOVES the dog park, her sister Lily, and the occasional trip to doggy day care (although they report she typically sits in the corner and happily watches everyone). You can see clear down to her soul through her big brown eyes. She is my best friend, & we are so grateful to have her in our life. Here is the picture from the shelter website, and some fun favorites from our house!

Emma and Kenzie

My husband and I had just adopted 1 year old Emma from the shelter and decided we wanted another cat.  We felt that, since she had just had kittens before we got her, she would do well with a kitten.  We went to Petco where they had the kittens.  We talked to the guy there and he found a kitten he thought would be great for us.  When my husband held Kenzie she clung to him and would not let go.  He knew that she was our cat.  It was not at all what we thought it would be.  When we got her home she was SO scared.  After losing her a couple of times and finding it hard to coax her out, we made the decision that we would get her used to one room alone and then slowly introduce her to the rest of the house (and Emma.)  It took a lot of work and patience with Kenzie to teach her how to play and that she can trust us!!  At times I wondered if we took on more than we could handle but I am so glad that we did! She is still not a fan of kids and new people but her and Emma get along great and she is the most love-able and playful cat when her world is calm and predictable.  Emma and her both are our family and we couldn't be happier!
